After an eventful trip which included a missed connection and a temporarily lost piece of luggage with some of my kayaking equipment,we have finally made it to New York The first couple of days have been spent purchasing food supplies and checking out the park around the Little Red Lighthouse to assess it's suitability as a launch site. Unfortunately the river's edge is lined with large rocks, and if there was a landing spot as I recalled then it was no longer apparent. Perhaps the tide was in too far and covering it.I will launch from the Inwood Canoe club a kilometre or so up the river. An e-mail has been sent to the man who has access to the club rooms advising of the departure time which has now been put off a day until Tuesday to give me time to get properly organised.
The weather here over the past few days has been perfect for paddling-little wind and quite cool with drizzly rain one day.Long may it continue.
At Lauren's birthday party I met a woman whose uncle is a very keen experienced kayaker who is a member of the Chicago Area Sea Kayakers Association. I have his contact details so that is one more person I can look forward to meeting if I get to Chicago
Hi Greg all the best for the start of your paddle. I was reading an article about kayaking the Bass islands on Lake Erie in the latest Sea Kayaker magazine last night. You probably won't have time to explore them but they certainly sound like a trip worth doing another time. Cheers Dave
ReplyDeleteGo hard Greg. I admire your spirit. Looking forward to hearing your tales when you return victorious. Take care.

All the best Greg, you are about to add another book to your adventure series!
ReplyDeleteMaybe make the time for the Lake Erie Islands ... they are at the south west end and sound interesting in the article.
